Samson Takes Best of Breed

Wheat City Dog Show Update!
Earlier this year, one of our families that have a Cassie x Codie coat male named Samson, asked if I would put him in a dog show! He was placed with his family as a companion dog as well they are wanting to work towards training him as a therapy dog. They committed to classes last summer for obedience and then came out to the kennel every Sat am for training the last 5 weeks towards show ring work. These practices have paid off as this weekend Elhart’s Ever Keep on Truckin’ ~Samson picked up Winners Male and Best of Opposite the first show and Best of Breed over Specials for a 2 point major the second show!! A big thank you to Morgan and Leeza for taking this boy in while I was on some of our other entries! Also to Judges Ikuko Nagasako and Dr. Terill Udenberg for recognizing our coated boy!
Also, we have Elhart’s Solo Empire (another Cassie x Codie male) entered and he has picked up Winner Reserve all three shows! Solo is owned and loved by Jason and Katelyn and Co-owned/Bred/Handled by myself. Solo has had several very nice compliments over the weekend and has some amazing social skills that shone through the last couple days.
Jason has also committed many Saturday am mornings to come out and learn the ring rules and how to handle Solo by himself. This is a much harder task than it looks and Jason has really shown commitment and taken every bit of advise so openly and it shows!
I can’t be prouder as a breeder of these two families for all the time and commitment working their dogs!!
As many if you know, my dogs are bred for moderation. No extreme angles and I like my breedings to be clean movers, able to have the conformation to work hours if needed. Full of substance and bone as well as clear headed and healthy.
I had an enjoyable conversation with one of the judges this weekend. He encouraged me to continue with my breeding program without changing anything! He has watched the breed evolve over the last 20 years and was very happy to see the type of dogs I had entered. I always appreciate a show judge that offers their time to comment either negative or positive on my dogs to help me learn and improve my breeding program.
It is very easy for breeders to become “kennel blind” and not recognize the faults in their breeding program… hence showing so we can see how judges react/recognize our dogs!
